In 1897 a correspondent for the Texas newspaper, the Bolivar Bulletin began his dispatch from California with a few words upon the beautiful surroundings where he commenced his writing.
Since the admission fee to Big Trees Grove was 25 cents at the time, I assume the rest of the cost of his adventure was for his transportation, likely via rail.
