"Big Trees" mark on their picture postcards. Though the mark appears not to have been an official postal cancellation it added to the charm of sending a message from the grove. From the late 19th into the early 20th century an unofficial, temporary post office was often set up within the Fremont Group (today the mid-point of the Redwood Loop Trail).
From right to left in the background: the Fremont Tree
(with flags), Jumbo, and the Three Sisters (the tree with the open base is the one we know today as the Fallen Sister - which likely fell in a 1915 storm).
This "Big Trees" mark is from a 1940 postcard.
